If Roxette ever had a book, the title would be obvious: The Book — a clever twist on their international breakthrough hit “The Look”. The design thrives on contrast: light vs. dark, near vs. far. It mirrors the dynamic between Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle — two distinct forces, held together by a zipper — a Swedish invention and a quiet tribute to their roots as creative pioneers.
Roxette
Visual concepts for various, partly fictional, publications and releases
- Project: Roxette – The Book
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2017
- Project: Poster Artwork for Roxette’s 25th anniversary
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2006
On the occasion of Roxette’s 25th anniversary, the website “The Daily Roxette” set the stage for a visual tribute — a limited-edition poster designed for fans, for their webshop. Channeling the restless, road-worn spirit of the “Tourism” sleeve design, the artwork unfolds like a memory map: bold, nostalgic, and full of hidden clues. A love letter in collage form — for those who still listen with their hearts.
- Project: Artwork for the single “A Thing About You”
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2002
Design for Roxette’s first single from their ballad hits collection, “A Thing About You” — a beautiful track that deserves its moment and a cover artwork that captures the emotion of the song.
- Project: Artwork for the Concert DVD “Back On Track”
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2012
A design concept for a concert DVD and documentary capturing Roxette’s powerful comeback and triumphant world tour between 2011 and 2012 — titled “Back On Track”, a name rich with a lot of meanings.
- Project: Poster Design “Nanananana”
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2011
Poster design turning the lyrics of Roxette’s The Look and The Beatles’ Hey Jude into a playful multiple-choice quiz. The footnote offers a helpful clue: Walking like a man, hitting like a hammer, she’s a juvenile scam, never was a quitter, tasty like a raindrop … well yeah, that’s her; and remember to let her under your skin.
- Project: Design concepts for Roxette’s album “Travelling”
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2012
Bold and memorable design concepts that bring the sound of Roxette’s tour-recording “Travelling” to life — visually capturing the album’s charm, mood, and movement.
- Project: Album artwork for Roxette’s 10th album
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2016
A design concept for what would have been Roxette’s 10th and final studio album with Marie Fredriksson. The title “Tension” and the X-symbol nods to that milestone — and the minimalist Scandinavian design delivers a powerful, understated farewell.
- Project: Artwork for Roxette’s comeback with Lena Philipsson
- Design: Florian Frandl
- Year: 2025
Album artwork marking a bold new chapter for Roxette. The “GP” in GP ROXETTE could stand for Grand Prix or General Partnership — but more than anything, it signals a fresh era, with Lena Philipsson and Per Gessle breathing new life into the band, six years after the passing of Marie Fredriksson. The image is a carefully crafted montage, placing Lena and Per in “The Heartland Café” (the name of the pilot recording for Roxette in the early 80s, a time when Per already worked together with Lena). The circle closes — and opens again.
If you are Mr. Gessle or Ms. Dimberg and you like my work, please drop me a line, I’d be thrilled to join the joyride in the design wagon for whatever comes next!
